Course Plan

Week 1 - What Makes Us Thrive and the Power of Positive Emotions
This week focuses on positive emotions – what they are, how they work, and what can be done to make them sustainable. The sessions will show the powerful ways positive emotions impact our body, brain, and immune system, and the types of positive experiences that can tip the scale in cultivating positivity. Embark on a brief history of how positive and negative emotions have served us, and the way in which having a positive attitude can be helpful at home, work, or school.
Week 2 - Optimal Psychological Functioning
Flow and the power of engagement: How can we learn to focus awareness to shift our experiences from negative to positive? What are the ways we can find our essential and authentic self? In this week’s sessions we will look at individuals’ character strengths, emotional self-regulation, and the power of goal-setting in our quest to achieve a flow state.
Week 3 - Relationships and Well-Being
The quality of our relationships has more to do with well-being than any other single factor. This week looks at how to understand and improve the power of family, friends, lovers, and colleagues in our ability to thrive.
Week 4 - Purpose and Meaning
What is your purpose in this life? What gives us meaning? At different ages this answer may be very different. What gives us purpose and meaning in our twenties often changes in our fifties. Learn strategies to help understand and reveal your greater purpose, and what this can do for the ability to thrive.
Week 5 - The Psychology of Accomplishment
What does it take to feel accomplished? What has science learned from those people who have successful and thriving lives, and how can this be applied to your life? In many ways the feeling of accomplishment is one of the primary outcomes of a thriving life. One’s character is seen as the primary factor in success, along with our ability to persevere when the going gets tough.
