Honoring Your Inner Child
The art of resilience is about extracting untapped strengths from the past and using them to enhance and protect one’s well-being – and one of the ways we can do this is by healing and honoring our inner child.
Your “inner child” is a part of your unconscious mind that has been picking up messages way before it was able to fully process what was going on, and any childhood traumas or adverse childhood experiences that we faced can create splits in our ego state. In order to heal from this, and strengthen our emotional identity – and with it, our capacity for recovering quickly from difficulties as an adult – we must recognize, bond with, and honor the struggles faced by our inner child.
Doing so can help us heal from these adversities, breaking the pattern so to speak – and in doing so, helping us recognize and reframe self-defeating thoughts, becoming adults with greater self-compassion, more emotional agility and self-awareness, and greater resilience. This meditation by Stephen Lew – a psychotherapist, clinical hypnotherapist, the founder of The School of Positive Psychology in Singapore – is particularly helpful for anyone looking to restock their self-care toolbox in this way!
