Ocean Breath
Ocean Breath – also known as Ujjayi Breath – is a technique that involves slightly constricting the back of the throat to extend the breath cycles. You will hear a gentle hissing noise as you inhale and exhale, similar to the sound of waves crashing against the ocean.
This breathing practice can help generate heat and energy in the body. Throat constriction can also help you to breathe more deeply, which can promote relaxation, release tension, and increase oxygen intake. Studies have suggested that conscious breathing can help improve focus. We recommend sitting in a comfortable cross-legged position during this meditation. Please avoid overly tightening your throat – you will only want a slight constriction.
This meditation is ideal for those needing a quick way to de-stress, but it may be best avoided by those who have breathing difficulties such as asthma. If you experience any discomfort at any point, feel free to adjust your breathing rhythm or stop the practice.
